Laura Lester
I am excited to walk with students this year as they learn, grow, and challenge themselves in the SCIS Visual Art Studio! This will be my 9th year in education. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Art Studies from University of North Texas and Texas EC-12 Certification in Art. My prior classroom experience was teaching Art 4 years at the elementary level (K-6,) and 4 years teaching advanced Art courses in an arts magnet school setting for junior high students (7-8th grade.) In the Visual Art Studio we utilize “Studio Habits” and an interdisciplinary approach, along with our district core values, to help empower students in reaching their full creative potential.
As a practicing artist, I love to push my creative processes and understandings. I feel most comfortable with watercolor, but also dabble in hand lettering, mixed media, and glass fusion/ stained glass are my latest obsession! Animals and plants are my favorite subjects.
I hold an abundance of hope for each child and look forward to seeing their creativity in action!
