We believe all children are entitled to a great education consistent with their ability to learn. Lovejoy ISD offers many programs and related services for children who have learning differences, ages 3 - 21. We are a team of dedicated professionals who will work with you and your child to create a great educational experience.
We understand navigating through the world of special education can be overwhelming, but we are here to help you through it all. Lovejoy ISD encourages parents to be actively involved in their child's education. We offer information about advocacy, 504, evaluations, therapy, inclusion, technology and the laws supporting special education.

In order to help our students achieve their highest potential, an individualized education plan is developed for every student receiving services through the Special Education Department. This plan is developed after a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team, including parents, has reviewed all the needs of the child. The plan sets short-term goals, long-term goals, and determines instructional and related services, which will best facilitate the child’s progress in the least restrictive environment.
Eligible children with disabilities aged 3 through 21 years are entitled to receive a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). In Texas, special education and related services for eligible children with disabilities, aged 3 through 5 years, have historically been referred to as Preschool Programs for Children with Disabilities (PPCD). In an effort to clarify and promote understanding that any child aged three through five years who is eligible for and receiving special education and related services through a school district must be served in the least restrictive environment specified in the child’s IEP, references to PPCD are being phased out of the Student Attendance Accounting Handbook (SAAH) and other TEA publications over time and will instead be considered as receiving ECSE services.
ECSE is located at Hart Elementary School. The ECSE program services will not begin until your child completes the initial evaluation process. Based on a completed evaluation, your child needs to be determined as eligible for services. If your child is eligible, you will have an ARD/IEP meeting where you and the evaluation/school staff will decide on the services to be provided. After you agree to the services and give your consent for services to begin, your child can start the ECSE program.
Once eligibility is determined, the ARD committee makes decisions about the appropriate special education and related services for the child. This information is documented in the child's Individual Education Program (IEP), which outlines what you expect your child to learn over the next year, including measurable goals and objectives. An ARD committee will meet at least once a year to determine if the goals were met and to develop new goals for the upcoming year.
PLEASE NOTE: The terms PPCD Indicator Code and PPCD Location Code is not changing at this time. The terms are embedded in TSDS & PEIMS and cannot be changed easily. The change will likely occur over time.
